Title: Feathers, Fur, and Fluff: Painting Animal Textures with Stencils and Thickened Dye M/T Instructor: Margaret Peot
Description: In this workshop, participants will explore animal textures—such as feathers, fur, fluff, and even dragon scales—with thickened dye and stencils. Using precut animal outlines (if participants wish—they can of course make their own) as a starting point, painters can jump right into creating dimensional surfaces. Beginners will discover approachable methods for adding interesting textures to their work, while advanced painters can refine techniques to suggest realism or more stylized textures. Each participant will leave with a silk panel that reflects both technique and personal expression—perhaps even connecting with a “spirit animal” for added inspiration. Learning Objectives:• Explore the use of thickened dyes to create feather and fur texture • Practice stencil-based approaches that free participants from drawing pressure • Observe different animal reference to cut—and collect—the different textures needed to paint that animal’s coat. • Create a silk panel featuring an animal or animals with realistic or stylized textures.
MATERIALS PROVIDED: Provided: large foam core boards (approx. 30x49), Grafix Mylar, Spraymount, tape, stickers, pushpins, plates for palettes, and precut stencils. Paint kits will also be provided courtesy of Pintler Paints.
