Materials Provided: Except for local leaves, the instructor provides everything else to teach the class: Lambskin leather, silk charmeuse, minaudiere clutch, matching crossbody snake chain, all operating and processing equipment (turkey roasters, wood dowels, glue, fabric strips, twine, plastic, mordants, scissors, latex gloves, glue, use of pre-dyed ( by instructor) blankets for color. Materials Fee: $50
Students should bring: Students should bring leaves from their area such as oak, maples, rose, hickory, sumac and interesting weeds. Fun additional plants (usually store bought) are live eucalyptus and daisy-type flowers. No thick or waxy plants although leaves with stems are fine. Fresh, pressed or dry. Instructor Bio: M. Theresa Brown is a seasoned professional artist with extensive experience in various artistic disciplines. With a formal education in Commercial Art and Printmaking at East Carolina University, Theresa laid the foundation for her career in printmaking and graphic design. She transitioned into the fiber arts, applying her skills to become a hand painter and ecoprint designer on natural fibers. Theresa specializes in using both natural and low-impact synthetic dyes to create unique designs on silk, wool, paper, and leather. Her work has evolved into artisanal clothing and accessories, with her designs featured in international publications such as "No Serial Number" and "Belle Armoire.” In addition to her artistic practice, Theresa has created instructional DVDs and eBooks in partnership with the national art chain Jerrysartarama, including “Art Marketing Success Secrets” and “Single Mom’s Guide to Making Money as an Artist,” which have been published as audiobooks. She frequently speaks on art marketing for various art organizations. Theresa is recognized as the first instructor to teach Ecoprinting on Leather in the United States and has developed a series of instructional PDFs on ecoprinting techniques. She shares her expertise through both in-studio and online teaching and has been a sought-after instructor at numerous prestigious events and fiber art shows nationwide. Notable venues include the Southeastern Animal Fiber Fest, Carolina Fiber Fest, John C Campbell Folk School, Kentucky Sheep and Fiber Festival, Florence Thomas Art School, Silk Painters International at Arrowmount, and the Southeast Fiber Arts Alliance, among many others.
