Description and Objectives:

First Day ~  (Zentangle is the art of mindfully creating designs with only five strokes to create complex designs on paper and as I have discovered can also be transferred to silk.  The added benefit is that they are created mindfully which brings calm, concentration and insight to the artistic process….a benefit of meditation.)

 Morning Class:

Students will participate in a full Zentangle Workshop being exposed to the teaching method, materials and patterns that can be reproduced on silk.  Each student will receive a bag of Zentangle tools and paper tiles (cost to be included in material fee).  We will create tiles and mosaics.

 Afternoon Class:

Zentangle designs will continue and then tangles will be demonstrated on silk with wax, gutta and fabric markers by the instructor.  Zentangle Silk Examples will be exhibited.  We will discuss pattern development and design on silk.

Students will then plan their silk design utilizing the patterns learned in the morning.  Pattern development will continue throughout the afternoon.  Initial layers of dye will be painted onto several pieces of silk as time permits.

 Second Day:

Morning & Afternoon Class:

Each participant will draw their Zentangle designs onto their dyed silk.  After gutta is heat set, students will paint their scarves.  Students can also experiment with wax designs.  Wax pots will be provided by the instructor and included in the materials fee.

Box Steamer and newsprint will be provided by the instructor so those that used wax may steam their scarves.  Students will provide their own PVC frames which can be broken down for those who are flying.  Instructor can provide a minimum of PVC frames to accommodate 8 x 54 inch scraves.
