Say goodbye to messy gutta as you embrace this versatile technique, offering you newfound freedom in your artistic expression. In addition, a variety ofsilk painting techniques will be demonstrated, each designed to elevate your creations with texture and dimension. Whether you're a seasoned artist or a novice enthusiast, this workshop promises an enriching experience filled with inspiration and discovery.

Note: It is possible that the scarf will not be finished in class, but can easily be taken home to complete.

Susan Fox's passion for silk art was ignited in the mid 2000's during a transformative weekend wiorkshop. Entranced by the fluidity of the dye on the shimmering silk, Susan found her artistic focus. 

Susan's body of work focuses on wearable silk creations, additionally, her mounted silk pieces showcase predominantly botanicl designs. Susan also shares her love of silk painting through teaching.

Workshop Description

In a vibrant and collaborative learning environment, come discover the ease of using  as a resist permanent markers as a resist to create a stunning silk scarf with either your own unique design, or select from three unique provided patterns.

Materials provided

foam boards to stretch silk, paint palette, pipettes, silk pins, 2 oz containers, freezer paper, index cards, tape, paper towels, iron, color wheel, q-tips, towels, salt, sponges, water cup, patterns, instructions.

What students are required to
bring to workshop                          

 8mm habotai silk scarf or yardage 14"x72"

silk dyes or paint that you want to use

Your favorite brushes

2 black or gray or colored Sharpie brand fine point markers- that have never been used, no ultra fine markers and no mettalic or oil based markers

hair dryer

prior to class, have in mind a fairly simple design to draw with no sections larger than a 50cent piece. Or select one of the provided patterns
