The Silk Painters of Ontario celebrate their second successful silk painting workshop in November (see photo). Membership has grown to ten silk artists.
The chapter meets at Beaux-Arts Gallery in Brampton. Because members live within a three hour radius of one another, they meet only two or three times a year instead of every month. When they do meet, they celebrate by painting for several days, usually without an instructor. Members who cannot come for the whole event, drop in when they can. Some members are working artists. Others paint less frequently.
Besides all the painting, they are getting to know new friends. Artists tend to keep in touch in between meetings and offer one another support and information.
During the last chapter meeting, the group established some policies for the chapter and set up two workshops for next year. In addition, they decided to organize a silk art exhibition of members' work and retained a gallery for the exhibition in December 2010.
The gallery space holds about fifty pieces and it will be exciting to see that space filled with silk art.
