Steaming
Authors: Lee Zimmerman

Most silk dyes require steaming the finished painting in order to bind the dyes into the silk fiber. This can be accomplished in a variety of ways: stovetop pot, special steamer. Once the dyes are set the silk painting becomes washable and light fast.

There are some silk dyes that can be chemically set.
